Way of the Spirit Staff
These wonderful people have contributed their experience and wisdom to the Way of the Spirit program over the years. They offer content presentations in differing retreat modules, or serve as spiritual accompaniment (as Quaker “elders”) alongside a class group through several consecutive retreats.
Margery Post AbbottWay of the Spirit guest presenter and Friend in Residence for Module Five: Prophetic Witness (2013–2018). Marge is a member of Multnomah Monthly Meeting, in North Pacific Yearly Meeting
Spiritual accompaniment for retreat Modules Four and Five (2019). Attending West Hills Friends Church, Portland, Oregon, part of the new Sierra Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends. Diane is also an alumni of the Way of the Spirit program (2015). Diane’s presence and compassionate listening help gather and settle us in the Spirit. She brings the same deep kindness to her day job in tax accounting.

Former Quaker “released minister” (i.e. pastor) at Camas Friends Church, Camas, WA, a member of Northwest Yearly Meeting, adjunct faculty at George Fox Seminary, OR, blogger, and proud father.

Quaker ecumenist, public advocate/citizen lobbyist with Friends Committee on National Legislation and the Friends Committee on Washington Public Policy for peace and justice issues related to criminal justice and the military. Way of the Spirit guest presenter and Friend in Residence for Module One: The Inner Journey (2018) on the topic of helpful approaches to the Bible. Member of Port Townsend Friends Meeting (Quaker), and former UCC street chaplain to the homeless and mentally ill in downtown Seattle. Craig authored Souls in the Hands of a Tender God, and continues to teach and share his experiences in the ministry of “companioning” people on the margins of society.
Way of the Spirit guest presenter and Friend in Residence for Module One: The Inner Journey (2019) on the topic of helpful approaches to the Bible. Colin is a member of North Valley Friends in Newberg, Oregon. Colin served as general secretary of Friends United Meeting (2011-2017). Prior to joining the FUM staff, Colin was superintendent of NWYM for seven years, spent 17 years in pastoral ministry and 10 years as an adjunct professor at George Fox University and Seminary. He has been on the boards of several Quaker organizations and traveled widely among Friends in the US and across the globe. He now works for Everence, an Anabaptist stewardship organization, as an instructor and liaison to the Quaker world.

Also Year Two program spiritual accompaniment/elder (2012-2017), Member of Chena Ridge Friends Meeting, and part of a leadership couple for FGC Couples Enrichment program. Cathy Walling is co-author of Pendle Hill Pamphlet 428, Spiritual Accompaniment: An Experience of Two Friends Traveling in the Ministry (2014).

Registered nurse, member of North Seattle Friends Church, and alumni of the Way of the Spirit (2013). Becky comes alongside Way of the Spirit program participants and staff to encourage joyful soul work. Her Quaker meeting affirms her gifts and has sent her out with a traveling minute to Alaska, California, Great Plains Yearly Meeting and Northwest Yearly Meeting.
